The Eddy-o Show - Flier #2

The Eddy-o Show - Flier #2

Following my work on the flier for the debut show of Tasmania’s one man Rockabilly band, The Eddy-o show, I was asked to do the flier for the second show.

The timeframe on this one was a lot shorter, which meant I had to work more quickly than last time.

Upon asking Eddo if he had any ideas for the next flier, he instantly asked me if we had any more usable shots of the Phoenix (see last post for details). To this I responded with an idea I had in my head; Basically I wanted to work with the photo of the front of the car, but bring it into a high contrast, black and white setting. The reason for this was mainly stylistic, and this choice guided the styling and layout of the rest of the flier.

As You can see, the final layout isn’t a traditional one. I tried to use the elements I wanted within the poster to balance out the unusual dimensions and the fact that I wanted the car grill to be quite prominent.
I also modified the original logo, inverting it and adding flair to resemble a car badge

I am very happy with the final result of this one, as was Eddo.

The Eddy-o Show - Flier #1

The Eddy-o Show - Flier #1

Upon hearing about the new solo project that Eddo (TheNoNo’s) was planning, I jumped at the chance to do the flier for the first show.

Basically, the Eddy-o Show is Eddo going solo with a guitar, a kick drum, and a high hat. He plays covers and originals, whatever really, with the main constant being found in the style… Rockabilly (soon to be Rorkabilly).

On thinking of ideas for the flier, I thought of the thing that I think of when somebody mentions Eddo’s name; His [year goes here] Dodge Phoenix. Armed with this idea, a general “loungy style” request from the man, and my digicam, I set off to meet Eddo and take some photos of his baby.

Combining the car’s side silhouette from the photos with the logotype I created to fit the required style (and some half tone dots), I came up with a result that both Eddo and myself were extremely pleased with.

www.boomboots.com - Logo

www.boomboots.com - Logo

BoomBoots is a web site set up to display and sell the work of like-minded artists/designers/photographers etc.
The Project was first started somewhere around 2006 when 3 members of an IT company’s design team (including Sean Ravenwood, Simon Krambousanos, and myself) set out to create a joint outlet for their creative work.

Upon the creation and establishment of the www.boomboots.com domain and site, the next step would be the logo.
Basically we all went away with the concept and the name we had come up with (BoomBoots that is) and came together a few days later to see the results.

We each had a few designs to put on the table, but we felt that this one of mine summed up visually what we were doing, and the direction we were going with the website.

A-Love - Live Photoset - Republic Bar - 2008

Went and checked out a nice Sunday night show put on by Melbourne MC A-love.
Great show. Since I first came across her music a few years ago, A-Love has always shone lyrically, but I hadn’t yet had the chance to check out her live show.
Following are some photos taken on the night with my Pentax AZ-50 SLR

Crixus - Throwaways Vol. 1 - CD cover/inside cover/label

Crixus - Throwaways Vol. 1 - CD cover/inside cover/label

Crixus is a Hobart born, Melbourne based producer/MC whose distinct style of music and subject matter sets him apart from the wash of stock standard MC’s residing in Australia.

Throwaways is a sort of lost dogs home of tracks. All the orphan tracks that didn’t quite fit. It’s a musical summary of a period of time.

My role in the project was to work with a selected artwork, an idea from the artist that he felt summed up the feel of the release.

front and inside covers

The artwork decided on was a life drawing done by Talitha Balan. The piece has a nice tone to it and puts across the right feel for the style of music contained within.

With this, I set forth to create a design that would complement the art and tie it and the music together via the display of titles and track listings.

front and inside covers

As you can see, the design is relatively simple, with colours from Talitha’s work being used to create consistency in tone and feel, and the layout of the type adding an element of movement and rhythm to tie the whole package together.
